A local resident has complained about the 'disgusting' state of the children's playground on Fisher's Lane which he claims is covered in broken glass and contains human excrement in the bushes.

This is the second time in four years that Hounslow Council has been contacted by angry locals who say that the conditions in the playground are unsafe and unacceptable.

The resident said, "The whole playground is scattered in broken glass. The perimeter fence bar has been forced wide so a child escaped the playground – luckily they were spotted before they managed to get on the road. There is human excrement in the bushes, which a child stood in."

He added, "I tried to ring the council immediately to tell them about glass - but this is hopeless as after a lifetime of selecting numbers on the menu you get put in queue. I gave up after 25 minutes of waiting. The playground has no signage (unlike Ealing parks) to give out numbers to ring in emergencies like this. The online form on Hounslow website for parks/playgrounds does not list Fisher's Lane playground so this issue can’t be raised by this method.

"The human excrement I find totally unacceptable and a disgusting issue. This problem is well known to the locals who use the playground and the Council were told about it in 2014 but have done nothing to resolve it, apart from promises they would from Paul Bassi. I’ve also been told many people have complained before but the Council ignore it.

"I can’t believe these issues are in a children’s playground in Chiswick – it should be safe for all children to play in but this one is definitely not."

In 2014 the council said it had investigated complaints and had not found any excrement. A petition was set up by a local resident four years ago to have the playground monitored more closely.

Cllr Joanna Biddolph contacted Hounslow Council who sent a team round to clean up the playground. She has asked them to see if a daily check can be carried out and if a sign can be clearly displayed informing people where to lodge complaints. She also advised residents to keep reporting any faults.
