An Acton family firm which has been trading for nearly 200 years has been sold.

Poores, based in Colville Road in W3, and Chorleywood, Hertfordshire, supplies building and decorating materials. The Poore family have been in the business since 1820.

The company has now been sold to Lawsons - the largest independent supplier of timber, building and fencing materials in London and the south east.

Lawsons managing director Joe Inzani says that the two sites represent "an excellent opportunity for Lawsons to continue to grow its network of branches in strategic locations in and around the M25."

He added: "Lawsons welcome the staff of Poores of Acton to the Lawsons team and wish them all a long and rewarding career with us."

Poores' former managing director John Poore - who last year received a British Empire Medal for services to the community and charity - was installed as Master of the Worshipful Company of Builders Merchants on October 24th. He headed up the Float Committee for the livery company's successful participation in the Lord Mayors Show 2013 on Saturday November 9th
