Emergency electrical works resulted in a power-cut which affected shops and restaurants on Chiswick High Road early today (April 22).

Sam's Brasserie, Chisou and the Lamb Brewery (formerly Barley Mow) all had to cancel lunch after the power was cut off by the electricity company at around 10.30 am while work was being carried out on underground cables.

There is no power to the traffic lights or pedestrian crossings on the junction between Chiswick High Road and Heathfield Terrace.

Some locals reported flickering lights over the past couple of days.

Sam Harrison of Sam's Brasserie and Bar was annoyed at the lack of notice and commented;

"We got fifteen minutes notice and therefore couldn't plan at all- we lost the whole of lunch service and also will have lost stock in fridges and freezer. It was very disappointing for us to have to let down our bookings for the day."

 He said there would be no compensation for loss of trade or stock.

Some shops were also affected and had to close for a time. Offices in the area were also without power.

The power-cut lasted for a few hours and was back by around 1 pm. The pedestrian lights and traffic lights remain without power.

We have asked Scottish and Southern Energy for comment.
