Rugby World Cup winner Matt Dawson spoke of his own and his family's experiences with the medical profession as he officially opened the new HCA private Outpatient and Diagnostic Centre on Chiswick High Road this week.

The former international and Wasps player recalled that as a professional rugby player he was "probably the most injured person in Chiswick" and had been treated in most of the hospitals and clinics in London.

Matt suffered 18 months of ill health after contracting Lyme Disease from a tick bite in Richmond Park. He also campaigned for a vaccine after his son was taken ill with meningitis. The clinic would be an asset to the area, particularly for parents, he said.

The Chiswick outpatients and diagnostic centre is gearing up to offer more services on a phased basis. Some doctors who live in the area are also starting to hold clinics at the new facility.

Eye consultant Mr. Ali Mearza, who lives in Chiswick said that there was nothing locally available to people with eye problems and they had to travel out of Chiswick to be seen. He has already started a clinic in the centre.

The five-storey building, at 347-353 Chiswick High Road (formerly Bond House, home to Decca and Universal music), was refurbished over the past few months and specialist equipment has been moved in.

HCA say that it will provide local residents with clinical services on their doorstep, and access to consultants. The clinic will cater to all age groups, from paediatrics, to orthopaedics, cardiology, women's and men's health.

The diagnostic equipment includes MRI, CT scanner and X-Ray technology, offering same day tests where possible. It also offers same day, and next day appointments with a private GP.

We have asked HCA how much it will cost to have a private GP appointment and what services will be immediately available. They said, ‘Pricing is in place and patients will be informed of the consultation cost when they book, then informed of any additional costs during their consultation. Consultants will have an online biography on the website which will include information about their background and speciality as well as details of their clinic times and days. For further information clients can also call in and speak to a member of the team to discuss their treatment and clinicians options.’

The clinic will be similar to the group's range of outpatients and diagnostic centres such the Harley Street Outpatients Centre or the Chelsea Outpatients Centre. It will not be an inpatient facility.

HCA says that patients who require follow up treatment or surgery can be treated by their consultant at one of HCA UK’s leading hospitals, including The Harley Street Clinic, or referred to one of the network’s surgeons.

Specialist paediatric care and dedicated facilities for children will also be available on site, including play and breastfeeding areas. Younger patients can be referred to either The Portland Hospital or The Harley Street Clinic if they require further treatment.
