Residents in an apartment block had a lucky escape when a strong gust of wind brought down a tree which crashed onto a window in South Parade on Thursday (4 January).

The incident happened at the entrance gate of Rusthall Mansions on South Parade. No injuries were reported.

Chiswick House and Gardens was closed again to the public today from 1 pm Thursday due to the high winds which also felled some trees in the gardens. The park is expected to open on Friday at 7am.

Storm Eleanor brought destruction to several areas of the country and affected transport on some train lines.

The gardens had just reopened after being closed earlier this week.

The Lantern Festival which had been running for some weeks, has now finished.

Chiswick House said, "Due to high winds this afternoon we will be closing the estate at 13:00 and plan to re-open at 0700 tomorrow morning."

The last time Chiswick House and gardens was closed was during Storm Doris when some of the highest gusts in the country were recorded at Heathrow and Kew Gardens.

During that 'weather bomb', there were at least four trees taken down by the storm. A large tree close to Chiswick School in Staveley Gardens crashed onto two parked cars and another tree fell onto two houses in Duke Road. Park Road and Hartswood Road were also affected by fallen trees.

If you hear of any damage caused in Chiswick by the high winds do let us know.
