The long battle to improve safety in the A4's underpasses has taken a huge step forward with the news that 3 new CCTV systems are to be installed shortly.

Chiswick Homefields Councillor John Todd said, 'I'm delighted that following local Councillor representation, London Borough of Hounslow, using S106 funding will be installing CCTV in local subways. Pedestrian safety is paramount. I'm sure this equipment will reassure subway users.'

Work is already underway to install CCTV in the subway that runs under the A4 between both ends of Sutton Court Road. The post is being installed and the works are taking place to install the cameras. Work has also started at the underpass adjacent to Sutton Lane South and the one at Netheravon Road will also be getting cameras.

Hounslow Council have carried out a survey and calculated associated costs to provide CCTV. S106 funding (money giving by developers as a condition of the grant of planning applications) is available for this project and the timeframe for installation should be available soon.
