Star television sports presenter Clare Balding has added her name to the celebrities backing Chiswick's first ever Super Saturday of Sport on August 17th at Turnham Green.

The former 5000 metre World record holder and British Olympian, Dave Moorcroft will open the event and well known dancer and choreographer Wayne Sleep will open the indoor activities. The action takes place between 11am and 3pm.

Local mother-of-two Kirsten Lonsdale who is spearheading the event says the momentum has grown and she is looking forward to a great community event - all organised in eight weeks.

The day's events will open with a mascot race - come dressed as a Tiger, Chicken, Grasshopper, Snake, Octopus, Monkey? The race will be at 11am as part of a brief opening ceremony.

Dave Moorcroft is supporting the event as an Ambassador of Community Games and as part of his role as  Director of Sport at the Community campaign, Join In, which is focusing on 'volunteering' this year. Brentford Football Club is also participating, promoting their coming season and coaching children in the Paralympic sport of Boccia.

The British Equestrian Foundation will bring their horse simulator, 'Henry' to the event and children will have a chance to experience what it is like to ride a horse - inside the Church.

"We now have 14 sports offering coaching for free. we have picked up the Paralympic sport, Boccia. We have had the water company, Belu Water donate 400 bottles, so all of the kids participating will get free water. Brentford Football Club are also coming down now. It's getting bigger and bigger every day," says Kirsten.

There will be music based activities and indoor rowing inside Christ Church, while sporting clubs and businesses will offer free training to children on the grounds outside. The sports include Football and Football for children with disabilities, Rugby, Tennis, Hockey, Taekwondo, Indoor Rowing, Animal Fu (martial arts to music), Aerobics, Dance and Basketball. The Chiswick Running School will be coaching kids in the correct running technique,

Dancer Wayne Sleep has agreed to open the indoor activities hosted by Christ Church,  including Tyga Dance, Animal Fu Kung Fu, Bokwa Dance Aerobics and Indoor Rowing!

Once costs have been covered any surplus money will be donated to the sporting charity, The Sported Foundation and Christ Church who are in the process of a restoration project."

Kirsten got the idea while doing a leadership course, as part of which she needed to organise a community project.

"I really want that for my kids and the kids in Chiswick. Sport can be such a great teacher and if I can just open up new opportunities for kids and local clubs. Then I will feel as though I have really contributed to the community."
