Clare Balding to Open This Year's Super Saturday of Sport

Chiswick-based presenter comes on board as event announces major new partnerships

This year’s Super Saturday of Sport on Turnham Green is to be once again be opened by Clare Balding OBE the Chiswick-based TV presenter.

The event, on July 8 will start 30 minutes earlier this year to give Clare time to rush to the BBC studios at Wimbledon where she will be presenting the daily highlights show of The Championships.

Event organiser, Kirsten Lonsdale approached Clare to open Super Saturday again, but with little hope because of the date clash with the tennis tournament .

“I emailed Clare, fully expecting she would tell me that she was unavailable - but she immediately wrote back and said if we could start at 1030 she was in. It is so incredible to have the support of someone like Clare, who is a constant champion for sport, activity and healthy lifestyles,” Kirsten said.

Super Saturday of Sport also has a new major partnerships with a new sporting centre of excellence operating out of the Park Club and the food and beverage company, Danone.

Club Des Sports will be a headline sponsor of Super Saturday of Sport this year. They are a new business operating out of the family health and fitness club on East Acton Lane and will be open to both members and non-members providing a fantastic new sporting centre of excellence for the West London community. The centre piece to these facilities is a 9000 SQ metre 3G football / rugby pitch, as supplied to Chelsea Football Club’s Cobham training facility. Other new facilities include 5 ECB Regulation Cricket Nets, 5 tennis / netball courts, with a fantastic dance school and dojo soon to be completed.

Key partners of Club Des Sport will be at Super Saturday of Sport including Shooting Starz, West London Cricket Academy, West London Tennis Centre, London Karate, Masters of Ballet Academy. There will be opportunities to take part in all these sports & activities including meeting ex principal Ballerina from the English National Ballet (ENB), Elena Glurjidze who will taking a master class on the day as well as demos.

Danone recently relocated its London headquarters to the Chiswick Business Park and are keen to support local initiatives that match their goals of supporting healthy lifestyles.

Danone’s mission is to bring health through food to as many people as possible, so partnering with this great Chiswick event means we can reach more people and show why nutrition and activity are crucial to the health of the community and in particular, children,” said Ann Evans, Danone’s head of social innovation and sustainability.

The event will once again showcase the best of West London’s sports clubs and businesses with more than 40 activities to try for free. Yoga Muni will lead mindfulness workshops for all ages throughout the day alongside traditional sports such as football with Brentford FC CST. The popular Chiswick Rugby Club, Foucan Freerunning Academy, Sisters n’ Sport netball and Chiswick Gators Basketball Club are among the groups attending.
