A local group of activists mounted a protest yesterday (20 January) at Barnes Bridge and unfurled a banner as part of a global campaign launched on the day of the American Presidential inauguration.

Their 'Build Bridges Not Walls' banner was part of a initiative to protest against Donald Trump's policies.

About thirty people came from both sides of the river, including mothers with babies, a paediatrician and several people who had travelled from south London to join them. A singer led them in a version of 'We Shall Overcome'.

A banners with the same slogan was draped across Tower Bridge, as well as Westminster Bridge where a banner was unfurled saying ' Migrants welcome here'. A total of ten bridges in London and others in different parts of the UK were reported to have been scenes of protest.

There were also protests across the world in Europe, Asia, Mexico, China and America as well as demos from people in support of women's rights.
