The new pub on Strand on the Green is set to open in the next few weeks.

Having this week been granted a licence to serve alcohol by Hounslow Council they have told us that they are aiming for 6 August start if all goes to plan.

The Steam Packet pub will be run by the same company which owns The Roebuck on Chiswick High Road and have a similar offering in terms of food and drink. The renovations have kept the upstairs balcony area and opened it out to make the most of the river views.

The pub was given a licence to operate until midnight Monday to Saturday and to 11.30pm on Sundays. There were seven objections to the application mainly on the grounds of public nuisance from late night drinking but the licensing committee decided that as the premises previously was licensed for these hours, any problems of this nature would have already become apparent.

In the 1870s there had been a pub called The Steam Packet on the site.

We the Steampacket why their Twitter handle was @SteampacketKew and they said that this was done to improve visibility on social media. For instance they said that the information on transport links was deficient if they used Chiswick as Chiswick station was given as the nearest available public transport even though Kew Bridge station was much nearer. They wanted to reassure customers that they were very proud to be based in Chiswick.

The Food & Fuel company also run The Duke in Richmond and have a total of nine other pubs across London as well as two branches of the Coco Momo brasserie and bar.

Cafe Rouge at Strand On the Green had its final day of trading on 17 March after being at the location since 2005. Previously the site was occupied by the Dome restaurant.
