An application has been made for a premises licence at 214 Chiswick High Road, the former site of the Pain Quotidien café and bakery.

The bid has been submitted on behalf of Megan’s Deli and is believed to be associated with a chain of restaurants with similar names which currently have branches in Parsons Green, High Street Kensington, Wimbledon, Clapham, Battersea Power Station, Islington, Balham, Surbiton and St Alban’s.

The first branch opened on the Kings Road in 2002 as part of a small antiques shop. The home-made cakes and gluten free brownies became more popular than the antiques so the premises was turned into a café.

More branches were hoped with the aim of being family and dog-friendly restaurants at the heart of the community. In 2014 Megan moved back to New Zealand and sold the café to a regular customer.

The group now has a Turkish head chef and many of the dishes on its menu have Middle Eastern influence.

The application has been submitted by Shakshorizo Limited, a recently incorporated company with the same address at the Megan’s branch in Kensington.

Its sole director is Vincent McKevitt who is the founder of the Tossed Salad Bar chain.

Application for new licence is made on the same terms and conditions as the former lapsed licence, save for an earlier commencement hour of 8am all week to allow for 'champagne breakfast'. The previous licence allowed the premises to stay open until 12.30am Monday to Saturday and midnight on Sunday.

Pain Quotidien vacated the site in 2018 but returned briefly in 2019 before the pandemic left to permanent closure. They had originally taken over from Balans in 2012 and before that the site had been home to Jack Stamps pub and the Windmill pub.

Any comments on the application need to be sent to licensing@hounslow.gov.uk before 19 February.
