Shortlisted for Best City/Urban Pub in national competition
July 30, 2023 The George IV pub on Chiswick High Road has been shortlisted for the Great British Pub Awards 2023. It will be up for the Best City/Urban Pub category at a gala event in Manchester in September. The awards, which are sometimes described as the Oscars of the pub trade, have been running for over two decades. There has been a pub on the site of the George since the 18th century, but the current incarnation run by Fuller’s was given a makeover in 2014 with a large function room added in 2014. Managed by Ben Bullman and offering brunch, lunch and dinner with an emphasis on local ingredients, this dog friendly, child friendly pub has become a Chiswick landmark. Live music and occasional live sports combined with comedy nights on Friday and Saturday means that it has continued to attract a high number of customers during a tough time for the hospitality industry. There are six pubs nominated in the same category as the George including three others from the London area, The Kings Arms in Bexleyheath, The Audley Public House in Mayfair, and The Turk’s Head in Twickenham.
