Michael told ChiswickW4.com that he was very honoured to have been chosen as one of the 16 London chefs taking part in the cookery contest.

He was given the choice of preparing either a main course or a dessert , and decided to cook fillet steak with foie gras, sweetbreads, ceps and girolles, with a truffle veloute and red wine jus.

His opponent for the 60-minute contest was Abdul Yaseem , the head chef at Cinnamon Kitchen restaurant whose dish was Bengali spiced Lobster.

To find out the outcome tune in to ITV 1 at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. The programme presenter is Mary Nightingale.

According to ITV, regional winners are entered into the national finals where they will be "pushed to their limits as they take on the fight of a lifetime."

The competition culminates in a nail-biting grand final that sees the talented chefs face the ultimate test – cooking for the expert judges and a 100-strong studio audience to prove they have the Best Dish.
