Oriental food has become extremely popular lately with several restaurants opening up in Chiswick and nearby. But it's even better when the freshly-prepared food comes to your door, as I discovered recently.

Feng Sushi has just opened its ninth sushi delivery branch in Ravenscourt Park and I decided to try out their service with a delivery of sharing platters. It's a great excuse to get some friends around with a few drinks on a weekend and you can also feel smug about eating a really healthy takeaway. To maximise the appeal I invited a cross-section of ages- the oldest nearly eighty years old and the youngest was ten.

The order was for two sharing platters, one a Sushi Roll platter, (4-6 people) the second was the Gluten-Free , for two-four people. We also orderered some vegetables and Teriyaki Wings. The platters arrived promptly and there was great excitement as they were unpacked. The chicken wings were on the tepid side, so I popped them into the oven to heat them up. The delivery came with sachets of soy sauce and wooden chopsticks and there was wasabi sauce and ginger included on each platter.

The Gluten Free sharing Platter (picture above) consists of: Black rice noodles with marinaded tofu and a vinagarette dressing, edamame, salmon and tuna sashimi, salmon and tuna nigiri and seasonal sushi roll, with tamari- its important if you're gluten-free not to have regular soy sauce as it often contains wheat, but Tamari sauce is gluten-free and they also use gluten free teriyaki sauce. Full marks to feng sushi for including those with a dietary intolerance.

I loved this platter- particularly the salmon- the fish was melt in the mouth fresh and the edamame beans gave a welcome crunch to the soft texture of the fish and rice. I was a bit tentative about the black rice noodles, but they were actually delicious teamed with the tofu.

The second platter (pictured above) consisted of Californian rolls , salmon avocado, king prawn tempura, spicy tuna and 'green goddess' sushi. It was equally popular with all the guests who made short work of it.

The menu is seasonal and changes several times a year- their latest is Spring 2014

I was glad that chicken wings had been part of the order as they were a welcome extra. I think it's a good idea to have something hot if you are relying on the food as a family dinner. It wouldn't be needed if you were having platters as a starter or as nibbles for a drinks party.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the sushi platter as I rarely visit Japanese restaurants . I liked it so much I am keen to try it again. A feng sushi delivery can be expensive- in this case the entire order came to £82 but it easily fed six people and of course you can mix and match from the menu with boxes starting at lower prices. There are Sushi Roll boxes of six pieces for around £5 average, while a seaweed salad is £7, a box of eight pieces of 'inside out' roll averages around £7 depending on what fish you order and and you can also order Sashimi boxes. Hot dishes include tempura and baby squid choices, and there is even a Japanese Fish and Chips ( Msc hake with handcut potato chips, remoulade and sweet chilli).

The wide variety of Sushi Boxes are ideal for a smaller party or lunch with 10 or 12 pieces of food and prices ranging from £7.75 to a whopping £34.50 for the 'Man Eater' selection box which sounds a hefty order.Drinks for delivery include Sake and Beers as well as regular soft drink and organic juice choices or you could push the boat out with a bottle of Plum Wine, priced at £22.

The feng sushi team are very careful about sustainability, and seasonality and try to source as much as possible close to UK borders -Salmon, the most popular fish on their menu, comes farmed from Loch Duart on the West Coast of Scotland. They only import a few species of fish, including Yellow Fin Tuna from the Maldives or Sri Lanka, MSC hake from South Africa, MSC salmon eggs from Canada and MSC king prawns from Australia.

If you want to eat your greens they offer spinach, rocket, mizuna and kale plus Japanese ingredients like shiitake, shiso cress, shiso leaves and various micro herbs, which are now all grown in UK soil. They primarily use vegetables from the UK,but do import items like mooli, tomatoes and cucumbers.

I felt the food was fresh, attractively presented and most of all, I trusted that it was properly prepared. Both young and old in our party enjoyed the feng sushi experience. I'm looking forward to my next sushi platter already!
