The University of Westminster has instructed an estate agent to sell their leasehold interest in Quintin Hogg Memorial Sports Ground on their behalf.

The site which includes a Grade II listed grandstand seating around 500 people, the Roko Health Club and over a hectare of grassed sports pitches is described as having 'development potential.'

A spokesperson for the agent Colliers CRE told ChiswickW4.com, "We consider that the grounds may have development potential that is purely sports related for example it is likely that operators may be interested in installing a further all-weather pitch at the grounds. This would be subject to a full planning application if proposed by any tenant."

He continued, "It is the University of Westminster's intention to grant a short lease, primarily to let the stadium building and grass sports pitch in front, but also some newer accommodation in the more recently developed west wing building. Two all-weather pitches and additional grass football pitch adjacent to the railway line may also be included within the demise of the lease if desired by any potential tenant. Such tenant would be required to adhere to the existing agreement in place concerning the pitches use by third parties."

He confirmed that Roko Health Club, Little Gym and the pavilion building sites are not for sale and the demise of any lease granted will not include this.

The grandstand, opened in 1938, was designed by Joseph Addison, the then Chiswick Polytechnic’s Head of Architecture.

It is believed at this stage that the site is zone for D2 use which would mean that sale of the leasehold for property development would not be an option but some existing users of the site point to the loss of other sports facilities in the area. There have been a number of cases in which developers bought a site but left it unused. After several years without sports activity on a site it can be possible to get it rezoned.

The agents, Colliers CRE, have stated on their web site 'all proposals welcomed'.
