Chiswick travelled to Newbury for the final league game of the season having already gained promotion and finishing top of the league and ran out comfortable 7-1 winners against a weak Newbury team.

Whilst Chiswick struggled to maintain possession in the early stages of the game they went behind after 15 minutes to a breakaway goal it wasn’t long before Chiswick were back on level terms when veteran striker Niall Mutch followed up on a rebound from a short corner.

Mutch was able to double his season’s tally for the 1st team when he was on hand to punish another loose ball in the D following a short corner. Chiswick then started to dominate for long spells and it wasn’t long before they scored their 3rd goal following good work down the right through Tom Lemaire and Dharmesh Puna with Andy Lightfoot scoring from the top of the circle to put Chiswick 3-1 up at the half time break.

Chiswick came out much the stronger in the second half and dominated the midfield for long spells with Dan Loman and Dharmesh Puna controlling the game and second half goals from Nick Barrack and two from top scorer Nayan Makan put Chiswick firmly in control and with 30 seconds of the game remaining John Cowie scored his first of the season to maintain his remarkable run of scoring in every season for the previous 22 years!

PHC Chiswick go into the Summer break knowing they will now be playing South Premier hockey next season and will need to maintain their defensive record having conceded only 24 goals in 22 games and scoring 86 goals. There is much to look forward to next season with some interesting local Derby’s against the likes of Barnes and Richmond.
