PHC Chiswick started much the stronger against local rivals Barnes in the early stages of the first half and should have taken the lead if they had finished of some fine chances through Dan Hall and Thomas Lemaire but conceded a sloppy early goal when the Chiswick defence struggled to clear the ball at the back and went behind against the run of play.

Chiswick continued to play the better hockey and dominated for long spells and eventually scored when Dharmesh Puna deflected a goal bound shot onto a Barnes foot which resulted in a penalty corner which Dan Loman coolly slotted home to level the scores and the first half finished 1-1.

Chiswick continued to press forward in the second half and were playing some good attacking hockey with Mitch Jamieson and Richard Shawyer combining well down the right and it was following one of these moves that Chiswick were able to convert a short corner when Dharmesh Puna fired home to put Chiswick 2-1 up.

Chiswick then had to withstand some strong Barnes pressure from which the away team should have scored when PHC were reduced to 10 men following yellow cards for Ashley Holman and Richard Shawyer but once the home team were restored to 11 players they managed to win a number of short corners and it was at one of these that coach Chris Hovington was able to fire home an unstoppable shot to put the home side 3-1 up.

Barnes then dominated the remaining 15 minutes and scored a consolation goal when Chiswick failed to clear a lose ball in front of goal but it was a well deserved win which gives Chiswick their first 3 points in the new league.

PCH have a long journey next Saturday when they travel to Lewes on the south coast but will go full of confidence following their first two games.
