The only playable pitch on Riverside Lands saw Old Meadonians comfortably pouch another three points and take their winning streak to four at the expense of bottom club Enfield Old Grammarians who have just two points from draws, if you call comfort having to deal with turbulence provided by the tail of an Atlantic gale which had the ball lost in updrafts for much of the time.

With four squad members missing, Danny Ly made it back to the bench after breaking his leg in the opening game of the season and Meads brought John Shea into the back four. Aidan Chapman’s opportunism after a corner dropped nicely for him after twenty five minutes saw him stab home from close in and ten minutes later Charlie Cain calmly stepped up to slot a spot kick, after Simon Richardson was fouled in the area.

The second half consisted of continuous pressure from the hosts with few real chances except when Nick Wilson failed to add to the total from the spot after a hand ball in the area. The visitors never taxed Meads’ back four but on the few occasions they got within forty yards of goal flew kites by hoisting the ball hopefully on a wing and a prayer.

Hence Meads’ keeper turned ‘caped crusader’ Garry Robinson earned the Mom award for two show stopping saves late in the game, having to disentangle himself from the net after tipping the ball over the bar.
