Old Meadonians

It was a lopsided team that took Old Meadonians to the final of the preseason champions’ Greenland Cup, starting with five out and out defenders and finishing with no fewer than seven of that ilk.

The game was brightened with new signing centre back Alastair McCombe celebrating added freedom and scoring twice.

Meads took twenty minutes to get into their stride during which the hosts’ speedy left side front runner gave them a torrid time. Striker Ed Glover put a stop to this by dummying his marker on the left and crashing the ball in from just outside the area.

On thirty five minutes McCombe headed in firmly from a corner to make it two.

Although Meads pressed early on in the second period they were well held by the hosts until with twenty minutes to go McCombe steamed forward and hit an unstoppable shot from thirty yards. The visitors then relaxed for the hosts to score with a volley with five minutes to go.

Meads will now face the first real challenge of the season in the final against a Winchmore Hill side with seven new signings at Chiswick Poly, this Saturday ko 3pm.

Team:Needham, Salanson, Hanley, Williamson, Adomah, (Zang), McCombe, O’Brien, Pearce, (Jordan), Rhone, Hawkins, Glover.
