Old Meadonians stepped up a gear in their recovery from a slow start to the season by playing Colin Hawkins, Ed Glover and seventeen year old Albert Adomah up front in their Old Boys’ cup away match to Old Danes who are struggling in the division below.

The result was a seven goal immolation, with hapless Danes as sacrificial lambs, in which the strikers shared the spoils and Adomah’s instinctive reactions netted him his first hat trick and four in all. Meads were five up at half time as on ten minutes Hawkins’ fierce shot was spilled for Adomah to pounce.

Next Hawkins headed in Glover’s deep cross from the right and immediately afterwards Glover put Adomah through the middle to score from ten yards and the same player completed his hat trick by swerving in from the left and tucking the ball into the far corner. Danes’ goalie’s nightmare continued as he blocked Jack Costello’s low drive for Glover to snap up the scrap on half time whistle.

The second half saw a slackening off but Meads still managed two more through another Adomah pounce and when, with five minutes to go, Glover thundered the ball in off the underside of the bar from twenty yards. In the dying seconds the referee allowed a Danes striker, loitering in a suspicious position to poach an undeserved consolation.

Meads: Sayers, McCombe, Williamson, Hanley, Lovell, Costello, Kearney, (Rhone), Cope, Glover, Hawkins, Adomah.
