Old Meadonians maintained the momentum of their late run towards a sixth successive league title with a storming second half blitz of hapless, and now relegated, Hale End at Riverside Lands on Saturday.

To give the visitors their due for half an hour they looked anything but relegation candidates as they fought for every ball and made Meads look lethargic as their keeper Lee Coneybeare was called on to make three first class saves.

On thirty minutes striker Ed Glover failed to take advantage of a goal keeping error to open the scoring but two minutes later he volleyed in as a Jack Costello free kick proved too hot to hold.

Stern words at half time, to the effect that the hosts were only playing when they had the ball, saw a more determined mid field winning more of the ball and setting the scene for Glover and partner Albert Adomah to take advantage of a tiring defence.

Ten minutes on and the best move of the match, some neat play on the left between Adomah and mid fielder Dwayne Rhone, ended with Glover volleying Adomah’s cross onto the post. Five minutes later Adomah was brought down in the box for Costello to score from the spot.

Glover soon made it three from Kevin Quinn’s through ball. With fifteen minutes to go Costello bent the ball round the wall from a twenty five yard free kick and in the dying moments Quinn waltzed through a square defence to tuck in number five.

Team: Coneybeare, Salanson, (Pointer), Hanley, Butler, Russell, Costello, Lovell, Bond, Rhone, Glover, Adomah, (Quinn).
