Junior athletes from Tideway Scullers School, the local sculling and rowing club based in Dukes Meadows in Chiswick, had a very successful trip to the National Trials for 2018's GB squad at Boston Lincs on the 17th and 18th February.

Laurence Joss (pictured) won the Junior Men's J18 single sculls on Saturday, and was 2nd in the double sculls on Sunday confirming his form right at the top of GB Junior sculling. Alex Jonas wasn’t quite at his best but was still 19th on Saturday and 8th in the doubles so is still in the frame. J16 sculler Will de St Croix was a slightly disappointing 6th on Saturday but was back to form on Sunday winning the J16 doubles. Coach Chris Williams said “ it’s really good for these guys from local schools (Laurence from Cardinal Vaughan and Will from Gunnersbury) to be able to get out and beat their peers from the top schools and clubs in the country, despite our huge funding gap and the extra time the boys have to put in travelling to training. I am really looking forward to seeing how the selection process develops”.

Izzy Lack was 4th in the Junior Women's single scull and 5th in the double the next day, as a Year 11 pupil racing against 6th formers this shows great potential. Jessie Goodall was 36th in the single and put in a stronger performance in a double to finish 8th. In the J16 event, Ana Mavra was 8th in the single and 6th in the double.
