Lent 2010

PATHS TO GOD
“Their Word Goes Forth”

Men and Women Outstanding in Holiness - Tuesdays at 7.30pm
During Lent there will be an extra evening Mass on the first four Tuesdays - a special opportunity for workers, parents and others to get to a weekday Mass. Each week, a visiting preacher will reflect with us on some more modern saints whose lives continue to inspire us and who reveal something of their particular journey to God. Each talk will last about 10 - 15 minutes in the context of a weekday Mass - a real opportunity for prayer, peace and growth in the middle of our busy lives.

LENTEN PROJECT—BHOLA’S CHILDREN
Our Parish Lenten Project this year will be supporting the work of Bhola’s Children. The main aim of this charity is to provide accommodation, education and medical treatment for orphaned and disabled children on Bhola, a large
island in the Bay of Bengal, in Southern Bangladesh.

The charity is currently aiming to raise £80,000 to create a new building to house workshops and dressmaking rooms, with staff accommodation above. We hope to contribute to this important work by raising £25,000 which would enable the building of two workshops, a tailoring room, and for them to be equipped.

Donations can be placed in the ‘World Hungry’ box at the back of the Church or left at the Presbytery. Those who wish to Gift-Aid their contributions will find ‘Lenten Project’ envelopes at the back of the Church.

LENTEN LUNCHES
Each Friday lunchtime during Lent, a simple lunch of soup is served in the
Parish Centre. Everyone is welcome and contributions will be donated to the Lent Project

“LIVING AS ONE”
“Living as One” is the Diocese's faith sharing activity for Lent 2010; it will focus on the church, one, holy, Catholic and apostolic. As in other parishes throughout the Diocese small groups will be meeting in our Parish for prayer, discussion and reflection, assisted by materials provided by the Agency for Evangelisation. If you would like to join one of the small groups, or if you are willing to lead a group, please contact the Parish Office.

A small booklet, price £1, with prayers and readings surrounding this theme is also available from the Parish Office. For those who are unable to join a group this is a good way of participating in the programme.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS
The traditional devotion of the Stations of the Cross will take place each Friday during Lent at 7.00pm

CAFOD LENT PRAYER

God of light and life,
We have a vision of a shining new world,
of lives transformed and people inspired
as the shackles of poverty are shattered,
and your people are set free.

We have a hope of enough for everyone,
of a world where your gifts are fairly shared
and your creation flourishes
as the barriers of injustice are broken down.

Spirit of God, transform us
so that we can transform the lives of others.
Work through us so our vision becomes reality.

Convert our hope to truth,
so that all humanity may flourish
and all the earth cry out with joy.
Amen.
