Children’s Choir building on success
Teams up with Chiswick TV production company
The Chiswick Catholic Parishes’ Children’s Choir (CCPCC) is building on the success of its first musical production “Joseph” last summer and beginning to make contributions to both musical and community life in Chiswick.
Proceeds from the summer production benefited both Catholic parishes in Chiswick (Our Lady of Grace & St Edward and St Joseph’s, Grove Park) and local charities. Founder and Director Clare Delmar Lynch sees the choir as a community builder through the children, their parents and families and the choir’s many supporters inside and out of the 2 Chiswick Catholic Parishes.
A choir singer herself for most of her life who is currently studying for an MA in Choral Conducting at the University of Surrey, Roehampton, she believes passionately in the benefits of choral singing for children. “I’m trying to help the children in this choir develop both musically and attitudinally into confident singers who enjoy a wide range of music,” she says. “Choral singing encourages children to work as a closely knit team, and to express themselves and deal with emotional issues in ways that are not possible with words”.
As it establishes itself the choir has been presented with new opportunities. Recently it has teamed up with a local video production company – Little Big TV – to do the backing vocals on a series of children’s videos, the first to be released next month in time for Christmas. 9 of the children spent most of last Saturday in a recording studio, and as a result have a newfound appreciation of what it takes to be recording artists. The video, aimed at children ages 2-6, features some originally composed music which is likely to challenge “Bob the Builder” in its catchiness and appeal to small children.
The CCPCC sing on the second Saturday of each month at 6:30 mass at Our Lady of Grace and are preparing a programme of gospel and Latin music to be performed at OLG on the 5th December at 7:45. Admission is free and there will be a retiring collection.
