Supporting a new generation of Chiswick artists, local estate agent Bushells has joined together with Southfield School to sponsor an art competition in celebration of the month of May.

Children from all age groups were invited to create a picture that they felt best represented May, with a brief to be as creative as possible and use any medium of their choice.

The judges, made up from managers and directors from Bushells, considered nearly 55 entries from Reception (aged four and five) to Year 6 (aged 10 and 11). Entries were of an extremely high standard and making a decision proved to be so difficult, Bushells had to increase the number of prizes from three to five.

The winning entry (pictured right) by Georgina Year 6 will be printed on a postcard which will be dropped through 5,000 letterboxes in Chiswick from 24th May. They will also receive £75 vouchers from Turnham Green Arts & Crafts. Runners up will receive £50, £25, and 2 x £10 vouchers.

Charles Morris, Head Teacher at Southfield School commented,“The pupils at Southfield embraced this competition with great enthusiasm. Art is a real favourite with the children here and we used the opportunity to teach them about the traditions of May Day and the Maypole at the same time. Needless to say, some were hearing the story for the first time and were more than a little amused to discover that people would actually gather on a green to dance around a pole holding brightly coloured ribbons!”

Tim Dalby-Quenet, Manager of Bushells Chiswick said,“We are thrilled with the results of this competition. One can see from the high standard of entries what a tough job we had on our hands with the judging, but Georgina’s picture really captured the spirit of May and was a clear winner. Bushells prides itself on the work it does within the communities it operates in and wants to pay tribute to Charles Morris for his enthusiastic approach, not just to this competition, but to everything he does”.

Bushells is one of London’s leading independent estate agents specialising in West, South-West and South-East London with 12 offices and more than 100 members of staff.
