More Closures For Hammersmith Flyover

Road to be shut overnight Tuesday and Thursday this week

Hammersmith Flyover is to be subject to more closures this week. The road will be shut in both directions.

The dates and times affected are:

• Tuesday 3 March 2015 from 22:30 to 05:00 Wednesday morning
• Thursday 5 March  2015 from 22:30 to 05:00 Friday morning

TfL say they are currently in the process of replacing the movement bearings for the Hammersmith Flyover and have completed 19 of the 60 planned lifts needed to enable these works and intend to carry out further lifts in March.

During these night-time closures, traffic will not be able to travel over the flyover in either direction. The works during each lift should be completed during the course of one night. However, due to the complexity of the work, they may need to close the flyover for up to two nights for each lifting operation. If this happens, they will reopen the flyover during the day between the overnight works.

Traffic using the A4 Hammersmith flyover, travelling to and from central London, will be diverted from Earl’s Court to the A40 and then onto A406 to join the A4/M4 at Chiswick Roundabout. Diversion routes will be signed during the works and local access below the flyover will not be affected.

Until spring 2015, there will be regular overnight closures of the flyover to enable strengthening activities to be carried out. During these closures, traffic will not be able to travel over the flyover in either direction.

Tfl say that drivers who would ordinarily use the flyover should follow the signed diversion via the A40. Research during previous closures of the flyover showed that drivers using the signed diversion via the A40 experienced less delay than those travelling on the A4 Great West Road through the Hammersmith gyratory.
