About ChiswickW4.Com

This site is the largest local community web site of its kind in Europe. It has over to 25,000 members and receives over 200,000 visits a month.

The site publishes a weekly e-mail newsletter with a distribution of over 19,500. It is the largest media of any kind specific to the Chiswick area.

We are not funded by local government nor are we part of a larger media organisation. The site was set up by a locally based company.

There is no editorial line as we aim to reflect the broad spectrum of views in the community. We aren't political but are quite happy to publish your views if you are - just as we will publish the views of someone who disagrees with you.

ChiswickW4.com is edited by Anne Flaherty an experienced journalist who has lived in the area for over 20 years. She is supported by a large number of other contributors who regularly provide items on a wide range of subjects. ChiswickW4.com is also a partner in the BBC's Local Democracy Reporter Scheme and some of the articles appearing on the site are from that source.

Participate

The site is free for you to use and we have no intention of charging for access. The site is funded by advertising - we try to ensure that this doesn't limit your enjoyment of the site. You can help keep the site free and the amount of advertising restricted by always telling our sponsors that you saw their ad with us. Nearly all of our advertisers are smaller independent local businesses.

To get the most out of it you should register as a member. This is free and registration allows you full access to all areas of the site as well as use of the applications such as the directory, the forum and classifieds. A weekly newsletter keeps you in touch with events in Chiswick.

Neighbour Net

This is a commercial operation which is supported by paid advertising. It is part of a network of sites which are independently operated but run off the same software and are centrally supported by a company called Neighbour Net.

They partner with local people, civic organisations or commercial groups who want to run a site that has similar aims. Neighbour Net provides training and support as well as ongoing software development of applications specifically for local web sites.

Group wide there are over 49,000 registered members and the sites get collectively over 100,000 unique user sessions a month.

Complaints

We aim to adhere to the Editors’ Code of Practice and if we have demonstrably failed to do so in anything that we publish we undertake to resolve the situation promptly. Any significant inaccuracy, misleading statement or distortion will be corrected quickly and with due prominence. If appropriate an apology will be published. We use the Editors’ Code of Practice but we are not members of the Independent Press Standards Organisation.

If you are unhappy about an article that has been published on the site in the first instance contact the editor with your concerns. Include your full name, address and phone number in any correspondence.

Our target is that all editors should respond to a complaint within a week of it being sent. If no reply has been received or you are not satisfied with the response then your complaint will be considered by the directors of Neighbour Net Ltd. Forward details to info@neighbournet.com. We aim to respond to all complaints at this stage within ten days although this may take longer if it is necessary to obtain legal advice.

If you remain unsatisfied at this stage we will endeavour to arrange low-cost, mutually agreeable and binding arbitration though an independent third party. The initial cost of this would be payable by the complainant but this would be refundable in whole or part if the arbitrator finds that Neighbour Net have not responded to the complaint adequately.

Note: this procedure does not cover complaints about feedback on the directory or posts made on the forum. They should be addressed directly to info@neighbournet.com.
