A wide range of Christmas cards, Advent calendars and other Christmas items has gone on sale at St Michael & All Angels church, Bedford Park - in aid of more than 25 local and national charities. The annual Cards for Good Causes shop will be open for the next five weeks, until Saturday December 17th.

The shop was opened on Wednesday morning by local author Celia Brayfield, who bought several packs of cards and wrapping paper. She was welcomed by Mother Nicola Stanley, assistant vicar at St Michael & All Angels; and (left to right in picture) Anne Mower, the shop manager; Isabel Little, the chairman of the charities group at St Michael’s; and Su Anstey, regional organiser of Cards for Good Causes. “Christmas cards are an important source of funding for many charities, and at least 81p in every £1 raised from card sales goes to them” said Su Anstey.

Last year, the Cards for Good Causes scheme raised over £5 million for a wide range of charities, including many of the best-known names, such as Barnardo’s, Help The Aged, the British Heart Foundation, Mencap, the NSPCC and The Samaritans.

The shop at St Michael’s is staffed by dozens of volunteers from the church. Opening times are: Monday, Tuesday 11am to 5pm; Wednesday 1pm to 5pm; Thurs to Saturday 11am to 5pm.

St Michael’s church is on Bath Road, Chiswick, W4, close to Turnham Green tube station. Look for the red triangular Father Christmas sign!
