Charity Giving at
St Michael & All Angels

Thanks to everyone who contributed to St Michael's charity giving in 2005, through events such as the Lent Project, the Christmas Appeal, the Bedford Park Festival, the Monthly Market, the Quiz Supper, the Barn Dance, the Bach Cantatas

and other events. The final figures are being collated.

               The Bedford Park Festival

In June each year, St Michael and All Angels Church organises the two-week Bedford Park Festival - as it has done for almost 40 years - to celebrate the Arts in our community, and to raise money for local charities and the repair and redecoration of the church. The Festival starts with ‘Green Days’ - a two-day weekend fete, held opposite the church and Turnham Green tube station.
This year's Festival was a great success, raising over £30,000 for the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths, the Upper Room, the repair and repainting of St Michael's Church, and the church's Trust.

Next year's Festival will run from Saturday June 9th to Sunday June 24th 2007. If you would like to take part, or learn more about it, please e-mail: torindouglas@aol.com .

Commercial opportunities at the Bedford Park Festival

The Bedford Park Festival is Chiswick’s biggest community event and offers a wide range of opportunities for local businesses. If you’re new to the area and want to be known; or well-established and planning a promotion; or simply looking to put something back into the community, the Bedford Park Festival could be the answer.

More than 150 local businesses supported this year’s Festival - their names were published in the press and on posters, and are still listed on the Festival website above, linked to their sites (click ‘Sponsors FestivalLink ’). To see pictures of Rageh Omaar opening this year’s event, click ‘Green Days’ or see overleaf. Click ‘Festival events’ for pictures of other events.

There’s a wide range of commercial opportunities:

              # The big marquees and events over Green Days weekend - such as the beer and refreshments tents or the 5-a-side football - can display large sponsors’ banners or estate agents’ boards. These go for £500 or £1,000.

              # Smaller stands on Green Days - such as the Children’s Corner and musical performances on the Bandstand - can support smaller banners and boards and go for around £250. Sponsors can distribute leaflets on the Green and link to their websites from the Festival’s.

              # Prizes - gifts and vouchers - are sought for Green Days events, such as the High Roller Tombola. Many restaurants donate free meals for the Win-a-Meal contest. We’re also grateful to local traders who give us free produce for the refreshments stands. All these receive publicity at the stands and on the website.

              # Festival events such as concerts, talks, walks, exhibitions and drama productions can also be sponsored and promoted on posters, programmes and the website. The price for these ranges from £200 to £500.

In addition, at the Festival we raised over £13,000 for the repair and redecoration of St Michael's. The Charities Group, led by Isabel Little, is now seeking new members (particularly younger ones).
