Become the next Cameron Macintosh or Andrew Lloyd-Webber!

One-day workshop ‘An Introduction to Creative Producing’ with Chiswick writer and producer Nick Hennegan.

Cameron Macintosh is the most successful theatrical producer in the world and has made millions from theatre. But he started his career as a humble assistant stage manager.

If you’ve ever wondered what a producer really does, now is your chance to find out. This one day course looks at all aspects of putting on a theatrical production or event - finance, the law, choice of plays or musicals. Then there's employing actors, working with creatives, commissioning new works, copyright, contracts, fundraising, other events, investing in theatre, parties and pitfalls!

It looks at everything needed to put on a show or event or start a production or theatre company, from the local pub, to a national tour, to the West End of London. There are various guests, live and on video, who are theatrical specialists. It will also touch on film and TV opportunities, Broadway, touring - and finding the money!

Producer Nick Hennegan said, “I’ve been making theatre and producing events for nearly 30 years - and I’ve made some classic mistakes. The point of Maverick Theatre is access. Until a few years ago there was NO training at all for producers, it relied on the ‘old boys’ network. Thankfully things are different now. I first did this workshop when I was taking my masters degree in Creative Producing. Because my experience is so wide and varied - from big commercial events for London ad agencies, to pubs in Birmingham, the Edinburgh Festival, through Shakespeare’s Globe, to national and international touring - my professor, Andrew McKinnon, suggested I put the day together.”

That was in 2007. “The first course was at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and was a sell-out, so I’ve been doing them ever since,” said Nick. The course assumes no previous knowledge. “I’ve done them once a year on average, although there is more and more demand, so this is the second this year. They are fun to do. too! I embarrass myself with failures and share successes. We get a great range of people - theatre directors, actors, new producers and those considering becoming a producer, administrators - and even arts council officers, film producers and overseas students who want an overview of British Theatre.”

There’s an added benefit to attending the workshop, too. Unlimited access to the new website www.creativeproducers.club
