Theatre at the Tabard presents its Christmas production: Five Children and It

Adapted from the classic children’s book by E. Nesbit, author of The Railway Children, Five Children and It is a charming and fantastical story for children of all ages and grown-ups too!

Five children on a countryside holiday discover a wish-granting fairy buried in the sand. Adventures, and misadventures, lie in store for the siblings as they figure out which wishes work best.

Directed by Tabard’s Artistic Director Simon Reilly, who took over running the theatre earlier this year, it’s a mixture of history, slapstick comedy and wordplay. Simon said, “It’s a real adventure story with plenty to enjoy for everyone in a fun and festive feast for the soul.”

“Thank you so much for such an enjoyable afternoon. The children really, really enjoyed it. The performance held their attention and interest throughout…I will definitely be recommending it” Local teacher following schools’ performance

Five Children and It is open now and playing until New Year’s Eve.

Young witch Gillian Holroyd’s mood is restless as her attractive new tenant, Tony Henderson, is poised to announce his engagement to her old school rival on New Year’s Eve. Gillian could use her extraordinary magical powers to bind him with a spell, but that wouldn’t be much of a challenge.

Can she win his affections without resorting to the dark arts? And what will it do to her if she succeeds?
John Van Druten’s enchanting tale became a hit Hollywood film with Kim Novak and James Stewart, and inspired the beloved television series Bewitched.
