Devonshire Road’s Top Hat cleaners has won ‘Best Independent Dry Cleaners’ at a national industry event.

The Chiswick dry cleaners, which is one of the longest-running local businesses in W4, was also nominated in the Customer Service category of the first Laundry and Cleaning News Awards (LCN). The awards celebrate the best in the UK's laundry and dry cleaning market across twelve categories.

At the gala ceremony in the Manor Hotel Meridien, owner Mike Moran collected the award in person and immediately acknowledged not only the efforts of his staff team but also the defining role played by his parents, Mike and Pat Moran who started Top Hat in 1967, opening their first shop in Kingsley Road, Hounslow before moving to Chiswick a year later.

Mike said, “It’s appropriate that we should receive this award on the eve of our 50th anniversary next year. Mum and Dad started the ball rolling in 1967 and 50 years later I’m still doing what they taught me. Our technology is state-of-the-art of course – modern, efficient and environmentally friendly – but our customer service is still the most important part of our business and I learned that from Mum and Dad.”

The annual LCN Awards recognise and reward best practice in the dry cleaning and laundry industries and are sponsored by the TSA (Textile Services Association), CINET Professional Textile Care and The Guild of Cleaners and Launderers.

Mike added, “Dry cleaning isn’t glamorous, but it is a necessity and is a key service for busy people. It’s about more than clean clothes though; my staff are important, so I’m grateful to them and appreciate their hard work, but equally importantly we’re all part of the local community. That’s why a national award is so nice, it joins up the local and the national. We have been recognised nationally for serving the local community so well.”

Mike Moran is well known for his involvement in the local business community and for organising the annual Devonshire Road Street Party. Top Hat also has a branch in King Street.

So, see what happens when you follow your Mum and Dad’s example…
