Chiswick High Road Hit By Spate of Closures

Another High Road business has fallen victim to the recession with the closure of Wimbledon Wine Cellar's local branch after twelve years.

It is understood that the owners decided to close the premises when the lease expired at the end of December.

Regular customers were told that the rent increase made it difficult to justify continuing business in Chiswick.

Two other branches in Imperial Wharf, SW6 and Wimbledon will continue to operate normally. Members of the Wine Club who live in Chiswick will be looked after by staff at Imperial Wharf.

Chiswick customers can continue to purchase wines from the company which will make free deliveries of orders of six bottles or more.

And following last week's announcement that Balans had closed its High Road branch, a concerned customer who emailed Balans head office was told that staff from the Chiswick branch had been offered jobs in other branches of the chain. Some staff have been redeployed to Balans at Westfield.
