A new centre offering Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) is planning to open on Chiswick High Road. Cryo Subzero will be offering a whole body chamber which cools the atmospheric air to -85 degrees centigrade.

A company called Cryo Subzero is hoping to convert the former Reflections Bridal Shop premises at 261 Chiswick High Road after they gain permission for a change of use from Hounslow Council.

WBC involves exposure to subzero temperatures for no more than three minutes at a time. It is claimed that these extreme cold conditions activate a Central Nervous System response causing the release of endorphins which are the body’s natural pain inhibitors and mood elevators. The treatment also aims to enhance circulation activity and clears toxin encouraging faster cell regeneration.

These treatments are currently widely used by elite sportsmen and women to aid recovery after extreme exertion. Last year’s Premier League Champions, Leicester City had a whole body cryotherapy unit installed recently for the use of the players.

The chambers can also be used to encourage weight loss. A single brief session can result in up to 800 calories being burned as the body’s own homeostatic mechanism kicks in. Also the therapy is used for pain relief as it is said to encourage and anti-inflammatory response. This is used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other conditions.

Localised cryotherapy will also be offered. This involves a device providing cold air to parts of the body at temperatures as low as -40 degrees centigrade.

The Chiswick centre will be equipped with state of the art machinery from German manufacturers and have a separate therapy room as well stocking a range of retail products both for sports recovery and injury management.

At this stage the likely opening date of the facility is not known.
