The independent women's clothing shop De Joli is under threat of closure after nearly thirty years on Chiswick High Road.

The owner Diane Bardon said she is faced with a demand for a rent increase of nearly 40% and while she is still considering her options, it is possible she may have to shut the shop.

De Joli

DeJoli has been in business on Chiswick High Road since 1989.

She said it was "upsetting" to see that local estate agents, who could see just how bad trade was in Chiswick, with hardly any footfall and shops closing all around, continued to demand large rent increases. "This has got to stop if you want to save the little shops on the High Road."

She was overwhelmed with the support she was getting from Chswick residents. "It's a true community and this is what makes Chiswick a great place to work and live in."

A nearby cafe told chiswickw4.com recently that they were considering selling because of the difficulty in making profits with such high demands from landlords ad business rates.

Conservative Party candidate in the forthcoming local elections, Joanna Biddolph tweeted:

"Another local independent shop in #Chiswick under threat of closure due to huge rent hikes. Agents & landlords should support Chiswick's uniqueness, not turn it into a clone of everywhere else. Independent shops make Chiswick Chiswick; let's keep it that way. #shoplocal"
