Yes it’s that time of year again the shops and businesses of Devonshire Road have got together and will be hosting a street party on Saturday 13th September 2014 from 10.30am until 4.30pm.

The idea behind the event is many fold, raise awareness and promote the Road and it’s predominately owner run independent businesses, say thank you to the local community for supporting us throughout the year and years! Also we will raise money for a very good cause and all whilst having great fun.

Tracy from Whisk said “we have managed to encourage the vast majority of businesses to get involved which is great because it gives the public more to see and do on the day, it’s sad that we can’t get everyone involved as it’s really not a lot of money to be part of a big day, get noticed and say thank you.”

Posters in the supporting shops will give a flavour of the day which will include something for the whole family including the adults! We will start transforming the Road early in the day (quietly to keep the neighbours happy) and start the day at 10.30 with a full line up of events lined up there will be plenty to do. No Nonsense will start the live music with many old classics to get the day flying; Chiswick Pets will be holding their entertaining Dog Tombola: Whisk will be having cooking displays: Devonshire Road Nursery will have a craft stall: Top Hat Cleaners will be putting on a few goodies and work with their neighbour Vinoteca a great new addition to the Road that have thrown themselves in to the event and community, this combined with good food and drink has seen them have a great 1st year. Outside Big Jims Trims you’ll find the Hog Roast again this year! The new businesses this year are Tamp Coffee, they will have a DJ playing world Music and our afternoon band is from Celeste and Rose own family. Kat from Damsel said “It’s great to see new businesses to the Road getting really involved and I’m sure it’ll be good for business too”

Mike Moran said “As ever if it’s worth doing it’s worth overdoing! Getting outside the shop and just talking with people is great for us both personally and as a business, as my Dad says ‘if they don’t know where you are they can’t use you’ All of us at Top Hat feel it’s important to give something back – may be that’s why we’ve been in W4 since 1968”
We’re also hoping to have a cooking demonstration from three of the restaurants involved in the day, Quantus, Vinoteca and Canta Napoli, each restaurant will lend us their chef to do a little show and tell so hopefully the public will learn something and get tasters of what is being prepared.

The Charity we are supporting and that will benefit from all the donations taken on the day is Cedars, a local Youth Charity based on Sutton Court Road “Cedars recognises the needs of children and young people to have a safe space, away from home and school pressures where they can relax, be safe and feel safe. We also seek to address further needs, such as difficult home conditions and problems in school.

The difficulties can often bring about feelings of inadequacy, failure and a lack of confidence, self- esteem and self- belief, all of which Cedars try to address through a varied programme of activities to support young people and their individual needs.

Our young people are searching for and struggling to find their identity. We want to be sure that we can meet the needs of as many of these young people as possible.
We’re happy to be joined by Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward again this year and they have generously offered to sponsor the day and get involved with the fun, they will have face painting, cupcakes and soak the Agent all to raise donations for the Cedars. Sales Manager Paul Cooney “ We’re all looking forward to the day and getting involved with the special community feel of Devonshire Road.”

The shops involved will all be doing a little extra on the day from drinks and food to free samples and goodie bags as well as some special discounts available on the day so look out for the Street Party Posters in participating and sponsoring shops.

So live bands, races, give aways, hog roast, street theatre, close up magic, Dog Agility, a Special surprise from Top Hat Cleaners and many more reasons to come down and spend some time on Devonshire Road in September. Look out for the shops displaying the event poster and give them a visit!
