Local jeweller Marmalade is a winner in the Inspiring Independents Retailer Awards 2012.

The jewellery store, which is based in Turnham Green Terrace, was chosen by industry peers who voted for the most inspiring shops in the UK and Ireland. The results were published in the Retail Jewellery magazine.

Marmalade, which is run by husband and wife team Simon Johnson and Nadine Meegan, was praised for its distinctive jewellery, as well as its work as part of the local community in Chiswick.

The Marmalade-making competition which is part of the Bedford Park Festival was cited as one example of great local involvement, along with the store’s jewellery-valuation days. Its eclectic website, which combines information on conflict-free diamonds with marmalade trivia, was praised for its combination of skill and fun.

" A forward-thinking retailer that is focused on customer service and making people feel special," commented the magazine.

Last year, Marmalade was listed in the Top 50 Inspiring Independents, and in 2010 was chosen in the Hot 100 Retail Stars.

Simon Johnson commented; We are absolutely thrilled to be recognised by our industry with this award. There are some world beating retail jewellers in the UK , it is humbling to be in the list, let alone at the top of it!

"As part of our continued commitment to retrain and reskill young up and coming makers and designers, we do a lot of work for the trade that isn’t always apparent to the general public,.

"I am on the Board of the National Association of Goldsmiths, Nadine and I both regularly judge national awards, we sponsor apprentices for the trade and are patrons of the Crafts Council. I think combining the behind the scenes activity with the ‘slightly’ quirky nature of the store goes some way to making us stand out from the crowd.

"We will continue to push forward with great jewellery, fun displays and important community projects to thank the good people of Chiswick."
