Ethical food and gift company, Turnham Green, has launched its Green Dads Campaign to coincide with Fathers Day on Sunday 15th June. The initiative is aimed at encouraging green awareness in children who, in turn, can influence their parents’ “eco-behaviour”.

“Turnham Green’s Green Dad’s campaign is inspired. Children get the environment, and the more they pester their parents, the more likely we are to turn this juggernaut around.” Zac Goldsmith.

Founding partners, Camilla and Natalie, will be visiting several local schools to speak to students on the green principles their business is founded on.

“We have been inspired by the incredible enthusiasm of some of the teachers we have met. Education is absolutely critical in ensuring the next generation grow up with a sense of responsibility and capability when it comes to their impact on their local community and the environment.”

Children can enter the competition by writing a letter explaining why their father is the greenest or with ideas on how he could be greener (younger entrants may draw a picture of their Green Dad instead). The winners will win an eco-book and the winners’ fathers will receive a Turnham Green Father’s Day Barbecue hamper.

Chiswick is rapidly becoming a green hot spot with the arrival of Turnham Green and Colin Firth’s new shop, Eco. “I think people are becoming increasingly aware and enthusiastic about making small but significant changes to their daily routine if it benefits the environment.” said Chiswick resident, Hannah Meredith. This is certainly the message Natalie and Camilla are keen to reinforce.

Find out more about the competition at www.turnham-green.co.uk (competition closes Wednesday 11th June) and speak to your school about what steps they are taking towards a greener future.
