Programme includes works by Vivaldi, McDowall, Howells and MacMillan
November 2, 2025 The Classical Choirs of the Addison Singers are to present a celebratory concert titled Gloria). This festive programme will feature the Addison Oratorio and Chamber Choirs, accompanied by the Brandenburg Sinfonia and organist Edward Kemp-Luck. The concert will be conducted by Music Director Matthew Thomas Morgan, with support from Deputy Music Director Matthew Hough. It is taking placeat St Peter’s Church, Southfield Road, Chiswick (W4 1BB) on Saturday 6 December at 7:30pm. The evening will begin with a selection of sacred choral works that span the 20th and 21st centuries. The programme includes Herbert Howells’ Te Deum and Jubilate Deo, written for the Collegium Regale of King’s College, Cambridge. These pieces are known for their rich harmonies and cathedral-inspired grandeur. The choir will also perform two Marian settings by contemporary British composer Cecilia McDowall: Ave Maris Stella and Regina Caeli. These works offer lyrical beauty and modern tonal colour, reflecting McDowall’s distinctive style. James MacMillan’s A New Song will add a rhythmic and spiritual dimension to the programme. Based on Psalm 96, this piece showcases MacMillan’s ability to blend traditional liturgical themes with contemporary musical language. The concert will conclude with Antonio Vivaldi’s beloved Gloria in D major, RV 589. This Baroque masterpiece is celebrated for its joyful choruses, expressive solos, and enduring popularity among choirs and audiences alike. Tickets for the concert are available in advance for £18, with a reduced price of £3 for under-16s. Tickets purchased at the door will cost £20, with under-16s paying £5. New members are always welcome to join the Addison Group of Singers, which is made up of three different singing classes and four different choirs for singers of all ages, abilities and musical interests. It was founded more than 30 years ago with David Wordsworth as its Musical Director since 1995. Matthew Thomas Morgan was appointed Music Director, Classical at the beginning of 2023 to conduct the Chamber Choir and Oratorio Choir. The Addison Singers comprises two classical choirs – an auditioned Chamber Choir and larger non-auditioned Oratorio Choir; and two jazz choirs – an auditioned Jazz Ensemble and a larger non-auditioned all-female Jazz Choir. It also offers three different singing classes to meet the needs of beginners, intermediate and the more competent, experienced singer.
