A Chiswick primary school teacher is preparing to take on Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge this December.

Robyn Hart-Winks who works at Grove Park Primary School is part of a three women crew intending to take on the challenge which is described as the World’s Toughest Row to raise money for charity. It involves rowing unsupported three thousands miles from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean,

Robyn, along with Louise Cox and Jordan Cole-Hossain, is part of the The Tidewaves a group that has rowed together since meeting at the University of London Boat Club.

Their nominated charities all support access for young people within sport: Access Sport, SportsAid Scotland and local charity, London Youth Rowing.

Robyn says, “We firmly believe in the power of sport and that all children should have access to the opportunities and life skills to be gained from being involved in sport at any level.

“During our challenge, we will be at sea for approximately 2 months, encountering 40ft waves, hallucinations, severe dehydration and hunger, as we row 3,000miles across the ocean from La Gomera to Antigua, unsupported.”

The crew is seeking sponsorship to raise as much money as it can. The three women have recently launched the 250 Club in an attempt to persuade 250 small businesses or individuals to donate between £250 and £1,000 to their campaign in exchange for a sticker on their boat.

Robyn adds, “The World’s Toughest Row is incredibly far reaching, and we believe we can provide local businesses a great platform for publicity.”
