Half of proceeds from football song going to charity
July 1, 2026 Chiswick-based NHS nurse Mike Fairbairn has swapped his scrubs for a microphone to release We Are Engerland, a rousing football anthem celebrating the hope and heartbreak of England supporters. With England poised to play the Democratic Republic of Congo this Wednesday evening (1 July), the song will provide another way to get behind the team. Performing under the name 3 Lions Roar, Mike wrote and sings the track himself — a song that began life back in 2002 when he was cycling to watch a World Cup match. “Every four years I start to dream again,” he says, and this time the dream has made it to Spotify. The single captures the optimism of fans who never stop believing, but it’s also music with a mission. Coming from a family of nurses, Fairbairn is donating 50 percent of all profits to Cavell, the charity that supports retired nurses facing financial hardship. His sister Lesley says his voice “really conveys the emotion of the anthem and tells the story you can actually feel.” We Are Engerland is available now on Spotify.
