Friday Night Traffic Chaos After A4 Accident | |||||
Pedestrian seriously injured near Hogarth Roundabout
Chiswick ground to a standstill this Friday night (March 1st). Several major roads in West London were closed after a man was hit by a number of cars at 4.45pm near at the Hogarth Roundabout and left in a critical condition. There are unconfirmed reports that he was hit while trying to cross the road. An air ambulance was seen attending the incident. The ambulance landed on the Homefield Recreation Ground. Initially the A4 was closed eastbound between Weltje Road in Hammersmith and the Hogarth Roundabout with vehicles being directed up Chiswick Lane leading to a log jam on Chiswick High Road. Later the police closed roads feeding into the area including the A316 and the M4 at junction 3. By that time queues were reaching back to the M25. The closure of Chiswick Bridge on the A316 caused major congestion around Mortlake, Sheen, and Kew, with traffic having to double back. Journeys of 20 minutes were taking over two hours. TfL said they hoped the roads would reopen but there were still difficulties until late in the evening. The A4 was reopened at about 10pm. The Collision Investigation Unit at Hampton are conducting the enquiries and can be contacted on 020 8941 9011.
