Positive Movement for Chiswick Post Office Reopening |

Report back from Andy Slaughter, MP for Hammersmith and Chiswick
June 6, 2025 This week there has been some positive movement toward the reopening of Chiswick Post Office. I met with Laura Tarling, Post Office Ltd External Affairs Manager, and had good discussions around the importance of the post office to the local community and the plans for its reopening. Whilst I’m unable to go into the exact details of the reasons for the temporary closure, I have been reassured that Post Office Ltd want to get the post office up and running again as soon as possible. I will be following the matter closely and look forward to regular updates from Post Office Ltd. In the meantime, I raised the closure in the House of Commons. More good news locally this week as Charing Cross, Hammersmith and St Mary’s hospitals have secured further funding from the Government’s Estate Safety Fund for essential works. Overall, the Government is giving Imperial College NHS Trust £25.5m that will be spent across the 3 sites on safety works and critical infrastructure. This is one of the biggest awards nationally and will help provide essential maintenance as we wait for the rebuild and major works in 2035. I was really pleased to visit Jack Tizzard School this week with Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change. Last summer, the school had solar panels fitted to the roof which is already saving them around £2000 a year on energy bills. The solar panels are part of Hammersmith and Fulham Community Energy project, supported by the Government’s Community Energy Fund and Great British Energy. I was delighted to welcome Latymer Upper School pupils to Parliament this week. The pupils enjoyed a tour of the House of Commons, and I met up with them afterward to answer their questions on my role as an MP and a career in politics.
In Parliamentary news, I spoke in the House of Commons at Justice questions on early release of prisoners and humanist marriage. As Chair of the Justice Committee I also made a statement to the House on the Committee’s third report, titled ‘Leadership of the Criminal Cases Review Commission’. I’m looking forward to attending Green Days this weekend, marking the beginning of the Bedford Park Festival. Finally, I’d like to wish peace and happiness to all my constituents who were celebrating Eid al-Adha on Friday. Best wishes, Andy andy@andyslaughter.com
