The Post Office, Officially Opening the Health Centre and Apple Bobbing

It has been a busy couple of weeks in Parliament since the Commons returned from recess. The Justice Committee had an evidence session this week on the use of pre-recorded cross examination.

The Committee heard evidence from a distinguished panel of experts, along with the Ministry of Justice minister for victims. The session was very informative, and the evidence will form part of an incomplete inquiry undertook by the previous Justice Committee prior to the General Election.

It has been almost two weeks since the reopening of Chiswick Post Office and it is great to see it up and running again. I know how important this local service is to Chiswick residents, and I am grateful to the leader of Hounslow Council for working with me to ensure that it was not permanently closed.

Although Post Office Ltd had a set of difficult circumstances to overcome to reopen, it is regrettable that it was closed for so long. I am hoping that the reopened service will have a long and successful future in Chiswick.

Last weekend I was delighted to attend Chiswick’s Apple Day outside Chiswick Library. The activities at the event were great, from juice making to apple bobbing. This was followed by Grove Park Summer Party in the afternoon – a fantastic community event where I enjoyed talking with residents. On Sunday it was a pleasure to attend the Chiswick Flower Market 5th anniversary.

On Thursday morning I attended the opening of Chiswick Health Centre. It is an impressive new NHS building housing 3 GP practices, with around 15 GPs who will serve 22,000 patients. I was delighted to meet the GPs who set up the original health centre on the site in 1978 at the event. The new centre has a whole floor for West London Mental Health Trust and lots of community space.

This year marks the centenary of the opening of the Great West Road. Hounslow Council have been marking this anniversary with various celebrations of the Golden Mile. This week I attended a conference reflecting on the Golden Mile’s 100-year history of being pivotal to industry and business in the area. The conference also focussed on the future of the Borough of Hounslow, including plans for infrastructure and a focus on tech and media.

The Commons now rises for Conference recess, but I will still be busy in the constituency attending events, meeting local people and organisations.
