Says work is at the boundaries of a new frontier in modern art
Chiswick-based George Renshaw has helped create what he describes as the world's first glass NFT artwork. He has teamed up with Anthony Scala, a glass sculptor who has been working in the medium for 25 years, to create the piece of cryptoart which is based on Ethereum, the cryptocurrency all NFTs run on. The glass sculpture is inspired by the Ethereum logo and 35 cm high and 15 cm wide. The collector who buys this piece will receive the digital NFT and the physical sculpture. George said, "We wanted to share our story as we have been scouted and invited to attend Cryptoart events in Madrid and Tokyo later this year. As I’m sure you are aware of the global hype around NFT’s at the moment, with Beeple selling an NFT for $69.3 million at auction. This is still a very new technology but with big names like Damien Hurst and Beeple embracing the technology, the art world is changing rapidly. Our piece is pushing the boundaries of this new modern art frontier." The world of cryptoart first came to many people's attention just over a year ago when digital artist Mike Winkelmann, known as Beeple, sold an NFT of his work at Christie's which the auction house said made him one of the world's top three most valuable living artists. Just six months previously the most he had sold a print for was $100. NFT or non-fungible tokens use blockchain technology to allow artists, particularly those working in digital media, to verify a particular piece of art is unique. Blockchain is a network of independently control computers that shares a distributed database which they effectively unsure every transaction made is valid and there is no central location where a record can be easily changed. Trading in NFTs can be volatile and there remains a great deal of scepticism about their true vale with on for a cat gif changing hands for $600,000. A man reportedly lost millions after buying an NFT for the first ever tweet.
