The world famous Glastonbury festival kicks off this weekend (24th-26th June). Thousands of dedicated festival fans have already arrived braving the mud and wet weather on Worthy farm in Somerset. With the likes of U2, Coldplay and Beyonce headlining it is set to be one of the best ones ever.

However, there is another name on the bill that may not be the most well known but is just as, if not more, intriguing. Chiswick resident, Robyn Hitchcock, is about to play his fifth Glastonbury festival.

Robyn’s career has spanned over three decades, with commercial success in the UK and overseas. He has had many hits as a solo artist, with his 1980s band The Egyptians and also with the 1970s ‘psychedelic punk’ band The Soft Boys. His folky sounds have attracted him to work and perform with the likes of KT Tunstall and REM’s Peter Buck.

Robyn will be performing with The Imaginary Boys on Sunday 26 th June at 18:45 in the Spirit of 71 tent at the festival. All acts performing in the Spirit of 71 tent will be trying to recapture the magic of seventies, with Robyn going back to his roots and playing classic Soft Boys material. When asked what it’s like to perform at Glastonbury Robyn said “it’s huge! It is like a medieval village with electricity there.”

However, performing to thousands is not what's worrying him; “our biggest concern is how we are going to get on and off the site.” He added, “one year I forgot boots and just had to wrap bin-liners round my shoes and then had to drag myself onto the stage!”

So, if you are lucky enough to be going to Glasto and want to experience something other than the Main Stage acts, then Robyn and The Imaginary Boys could be just the thing. Robyn will also be performing at the Eden Project (12th July), The Wilderness Festival (14th August) and the Big Chill Festival (7th August) this summer.
