Oxfam has appointed Livia Firth as its newest Global Ambassador, joining others such as Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Scarlett Johansson, and Coldplay's Chris Martin to partner the charity in its campaigning and fundraising work.

Best known for her eco-friendly approach to fashion , the mother-of-two tweeted today;

"I'm incredibly honoured and will carry their flag with great pride".

Livia has travelled with her Oscar-winning husband Colin on overseas trips for Oxfam in the past, including in 2005 to Ethiopia where they campaigned on behalf of coffee farmers.

In 2008 she travelled to Southern Asia and met women garment makers in Bangladesh. Sherecently travelled to Zamba and learned about rural education projects.She has also been involved in several fashion and clothing fundraising events for Oxfam.

The charity said today;

"Livia has supported Oxfam for many years and has visited its programs in Bangladesh and Zambia. She has also used her considerable persuasive skills to encourage other influential women to join her in supporting Oxfam's work".
