Responding to concerns of residents and ward panel
Police have confirmed they are taking action to tackle reports of drug use at Southfield Recreation Ground following concerns raised by local residents and ward panel members. The issue has been reported on several occasions and has been identified as a priority by the local ward panel. Southfield Recreation Ground is widely used by families, sports groups and the wider community, and officers say drug-related activity poses risks to public safety, health and the enjoyment of the space. In a statement issued via the Met Engage neighbourhood alert system, local officers said they are working closely with partner agencies, community groups and residents to address the problem and ensure the area remains safe and welcoming. As part of the response, police will increase patrols in the area, including both early and late visits, to deter illegal activity. Officers will also adopt a combined agency approach to identify offenders and consider safeguarding measures where appropriate. Residents are being encouraged to play a role by joining the neighbourhood watch scheme and continuing to report any concerns to the police so they can respond effectively. The update was signed by PC Mia Atherley and PC Traie Dale, local officers for the Southfield area, who thanked the community for their ongoing support and vigilance.
