Police say victim was subjected to a sustained serious assault
A 46-year-old woman from Chiswick has been arrested following the death of a man in a pub in Essex. Emergency services were called to London Road in Westcliff, near The Cricketers pub, on 12 June after reports that a woman had seriously assaulted a man. The victim, a man in his forties, was found with severe injuries to his head and chest. The woman was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and of controlling and coercive behaviour. She has been released on bail while enquiries continue. Police have confirmed that the man has since died, and the investigation into the assault remains ongoing. Temporary Detective Inspector Steve Robson said: “We believe this was a sustained serious assault – anyone that witnessed this or was in the area and may have footage of this could be key. Even the smallest piece of information or shortest dashcam clip may prove vital. If you were in London Road that weekend in June, we want to hear from you as soon as possible. ” An Essex Police spokesperson added: “Please contact us quoting investigation number 42/99897/26. You can let us know by submitting a report on our website or by using our online Live Chat service, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. ”
