Man Dies in Chiswick Flat Fire

A man has died in a fire in Chiswick this Monday morning (6 January).
The blaze started in the second storey of Thornhill House, a four storey block on Wood Street near William Hogarth Primary School' shortly before 5.25am.
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters attended after 22 999 calls were received.
A man was rescued from the third floor via an internal staircase by crews wearing breathing apparatus. However, he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Another man had left the building before the Fire Brigade arrived.
Part of a maisonette on the second and third floor was damaged by the fire.
The fire was under control just over an hour after the fire engines arrived. Fire crews from Chiswick, Acton, Richmond and Hammersmith fire stations were at the scene.
Councillor Lily Bath, Deputy Leader of Hounslow Council, said, "Sadly, one resident has died. Our thoughts and condolences are with their family, friends and neighbours.
“The fire, which was contained to one property, has been extinguished and some residents have started to return to their homes. Staff from the council’s emergency planning and housing teams are currently on site and assessing the housing needs of tenants. People are requested to avoid the Wood Street area while a police cordon is in place.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
